Davey has been in preschool here in Bahrain since early January. I could only find two schools nearby that would allow him to attend (or at least let us pay for) less than 5 days a week. I'm just not ready to have him gone that many days a week (plus, it's not cheap)! Luckily the two options I had were good ones. We have been very happy with the school he attends and he really enjoys it. Every morning as we walk out the door Davey says, "Let's see what they're going to have," meaning what activities and toys they'll have out when he walks in since they change every day.
Shortly after he began there, I was speaking with another mother who said how her son comes back the best version of himself every day. I thought that was a pretty high complement considering the bad habits kids usually seem to pick up when they start going to school. But I have also found it to be true. He comes home happy and nice and has some good habits and views that I'm sure he's picked up from school. And not a negative one so far. For example, he's always replying to requests with, "Oh, sure!" and, "I'll give it a try." He'll say, "Charlie needs a friend," and go to play with him.
A few other interesting phrases he uses these days that I'm sure must have come from the Brits at school:
- It's not sensible to...
- You're cheeky, Mommy. (What does that mean anyway?)
- Oh deary me!
- I need a friend. (Apparently if they say this at school, someone immediately goes to play with them.)
Another nice touch of this school is that they email a picture of each child at school every week, along with a nice caption or observation about the child. I'll share the ones we have so far (with the commentary from the teacher)...
davey has made a good start at nursery. attached is a first pic of him focusing hard ! great concentrating davey !
(I'm a little embarrased of this pic; how long and scraggly I let his hair get, especially for his first day of school!)

Davey is happy at nursery. He loves to chat and is therefore attracted to adult led work. He is pictured building his representation of your 3D house – in Bahrain and not texas ! great job davey x
(Notice the better hair? I also appreciated their correct observation about him after he'd been there only a week. That's definitely Davey.)

Davey enjoyed stencilling – you tried your best davey …… well done !

this week davey worked with joshy to try golf ball rolling .... good team work davey

this picture says it all ......hmmmm this puzzle is tricky

whilst dismounting from the trampoline davey found a hole in one of his socks. 'come and look. i have a hole in my sock' .... wow, he was excited ... and so was everyone who came to inspect it !

this week we celebrated chinese new year and used lots of red and gold colour in our art. davey worked with joey but was more interested in refilling the glue bottle when we ran out - funnels are very interesting things. good watching davey :)

this week we have been learning about the sense of sight. davey spent a long time in our looking lab, experimenting and doing lots of looking. great work davey :)
